About me
“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”
Albert Einstein
I love that quote because it supports my belief that, however complicated a concept is, it can always be broken down into smaller and smaller building blocks until it is within the grasp of the learner. Understanding is knowing how those blocks fit together.
During a long career in computer programming, it was particularly rewarding to share my understanding of new developments with colleagues and clients by providing training sessions and telephone support. I am passionate about both technology and learning, and I hope to instil an appreciation of both in my clients.
Excel is a fantastic tool to learn as it combines so many aspects of technology. I have worked on large scale suites of interlinked spreadsheets, automated with Excel’s internal programming environment, pulling in data from diverse sources, performing calculations and analysis, and creating reports and presentations to a range of business systems. Many businesses use an array of different applications and systems to achieve the same things.
As can be seen, I’ve done some studying myself, so I know the importance of a friendly, professional and well-trained tutor in creating a safe and productive environment in which to learn.
When I’m not delivering Excel training online I volunteer as a TA supporting the OCR Level 2 Certificate in ICT to a class of adults in Croydon. I also tutor KS3 maths online, and play 8 ball pool in the Croydon and District Pool League.
